Here are the answers to frequently asked questions about Learning First NY.
We specialize in working with neurodivergent students at every level of need. We are experienced in working with students who identify as autistic, have ADHD, are dyslexic, those who experience challenges with written expression, those who experience challenges with mathematical understanding, those who communicate nonverbally, those who experience cognitive processing challenges, those who experience auditory processing challenges, and more.
We suggest scheduling a session for one hour at least once per week. Sometimes, a student’s level of need indicates that more than one hour per week would be most beneficial. We discuss a session schedule plan with each family and create a partnership based on what is mutually agreed upon as the best plan.
Our preference is to work with each student in-person for each session. If it best meets your family’s need to work with our team online, we are open to that being the plan.
Each child is an individual and makes progress at their own pace. The most noticeable progress is made when a student consistently has one or more sessions per week throughout the year. Most families work with a member of our team throughout the year so that their child can maintain growth that has taken place during the school year, as well as work toward growth of skills beyond their current level to meet or exceed grade level standards and/or individualized education program goals.
When choosing to work with our team, you are not getting an approach you will find through any large-scale franchise. While other businesses may have a team of equally well-intended individuals working with students, most are not providing an integrated approach that combines best practices for academic learning with research-based best practices of clinicians. Marissa, the team leader, has a positive and personalized relationship with each family. Any parent or guardian who has a student working with her directly or another team member can reach out any time, any day to speak with her personally over the phone, through text, or through email to share any questions, feedback, or other thoughts on their mind for no extra cost. Marissa is proud to have such a strong and positive working relationship with each Learning First NY family, built on trust and mutual respect.
